The Staff

Christian Hagen (Founder/Editor-in-Chief)

Christian is a young buck music journalist from Minneapolis. His work has appeared on Pajiba, The Music Is The Message, and in The Minnesota State University Reporter. AudioSuede is his baby, and he will try to raise it right. (Twitter: @ChristianJHagen)

Chris Bosman

Despite his best efforts, Chris currently calls Mankato, Minnesota home. He holes up for days in his apartment, digesting music that’s new and music that’s new to him, looking for stuff that will shock and awe him without civilian casualties. His writing has appeared on Pitchfork, Tiny Mix Tapes and Prefix. Aside from that, he pretentiously philosophizes over at his blog Racecar Brown. What he’s doing when he blinks his way into the sunlight is anyone’s guess. He may sparkle, but we hope not. (Twitter: @RacecarBrown)

Jean-Philip Guy

Jean-Philip lives across the river litterally, from Canada’s parliament, in Gatineau, Québec. Not sufficiently mastered, he still works in a sunny bookstore in the Market in downtown Ottawa. When’s he’s not busy watching TV, movies, reading or listening to music, he also likes to sleep, sometimes. To remedy that, he thought that maybe he could write a bit. He’s currently contributing to Le libraire as well. He loves living in his little Québécois/Canadien-Français microcosm, and will, hopefully, make you likes some things from it too… besides poutine.

Ruby Niemann

In her spare time, Ruby watches bad movie and plays Drunk Uno to win. She has been described (sarcastically) as ‘all class’, ‘classy as tits’ and, less sarcastically, as ‘that girl in the garden who’s been drunkenly arguing about whether or not Coco Pops are awesome for the last hour and a half’. She hails from sunny Australia, where she is valiantly trying to run away from a Law/History degree she’s allegedly enrolled in. She decided to start trying to force her writing on other people in the hope that maybe that way she won’t have to become a lawyer and spend the rest of her days atrophying in a cubicle endlessly searching for a ‘very important’ post-it note from 1982.

Chris Polley

Chris feels awkward when there is silence instead of music. He resides and teaches high school English in Minneapolis, co-runs and writes about pop culture for The Blogulator, and has written about music for Pajiba, The Music is the Message, and Reveille. But the obsessiveness doesn’t end there: he also plays guitar in his band Paragraphs and incessantly updates music and movie-related lists at I Can’t Come Home, Grace. I’m an Adult. Felicia (Contributor)

Felicia specializes in threatening to punch people in the face, drinking large amounts of alcohol, making homemade enchiladas and speaking her mind.  Minneapolis is where she calls home, even though for seven months out of the year she questions why the hell she lives there.  The answer is because home is where the heart is and Minneapolis is one of the top music towns in the nation.  She approaches music writing as a fan first, attempting to leave pretension aside.  She doesn’t take any shit and has no fear of going Jersey Shore on your ass if you try.  All this and more at her blog My Boring Life.

Friends/Former Staff

Grace Babcock

Grace constantly dreams of living in a warmer locale (as long as it is somewhere with a decent music scene) and listens to music obsessively. Her taste in tunes is varied, rock-influenced, and you can find her frequently telling anyone who will listen about her ‘band of the moment’. In the real world she’s working on her bachelor’s degree in religion, and plotting her post-graduate endeavors. Aside from music, Grace is also passionate about film, excellent literature, and popcorn.

Caspar

Caspar lives in London and writes and thinks about music and books and things in the spare time he has away from the job that he doesn’t quite understand.

Cooper Foyt

Cooper is a cynical semi-student and budding musical critic from St. Paul. His works have appeared on the kitchen fridge but that is hopefully changing for the better. He is giddy with excitement to be on this staff.

Sam Gelfand

Sam Gelfand is a lifelong resident of Minneapolis.  After dropping out of the University of St. Thomas, he attended Minneapolis and Community Technical College, majoring in screenwriting.  He currently works as a freelance production assistant and plays bass in three bands.  He appears regularly on a public access television show called Freaky Deeky and spends his free time arguing on message boards and thinking about basketball.

Daniel Wipert

Daniel lives in the Northwest paradise of Portland, OR. He has worked as a high school teacher, fertilizer salesmen, and a screenplay analyst. His first love was “Wonderwall,” a song he can no longer bear to hear. Besides his deep love and appreciation for the aural arts, Daniel is a film snob and literary elitist. He takes being a pseudo-intellectual very seriously. Daniel’s preferred musical genres are dance pop and emo.
